Sadly, no, FIFA 21 does not support crossplay. Not only is it not possible for Xbox One and PS4 players to play together, it’s also impossible for a PS4 and PS5 owner to enjoy FIFA 21 cross-generation play.
This will likely make the decisions to upgrade more difficult for players who enjoy gaming with their friends. It won’t be possible to play FUT with a friend unless they’re using the same hardware. FIFA 21’s lack of crossplay makes this a particular challenge.
As such, buying a PS5 or Xbox Series X at launch will only make sense if your friends are also planning to get one – which, for a game that runs perfectly well on current-gen consoles, might not be worth the price tag.

The good news is that, apparently, while those who start playing FIFA 21 on a PS4 or Xbox One won’t be able to enjoy crossplay, they will be able to transfer their save data to a PS5 or Xbox Series X if and when they choose to upgrade.
This being the case, many people will likely choose not to become early adopters, as they can hold off on getting a next-gen console without losing any benefits.
Either way, it’s a bit of a blow to discover that FIFA 21 won’t feature any form of crossplay or cross-generation play at launch. EA has hinted that this might be available later, but it’s worth assuming that this won’t be the company’s top priority.

That means if you have upgraded to FIFA 21 on PlayStation 5, you will not be able to play with or against friends who are still playing on PlayStation 4.
EA Sports confirmed that cross-play would not be supported during a Q&A session on their FIFA Direct Communication Twitter account:
“You won’t be able to play across console generations or cross-play in FIFA 21. However, you will be able to carry over your FUT progression from PS4 to PS5 and Xbox 1 to Xbox Series X.”

Unfortunately, as well as not being able to play against PlayStation 4 players using FIFA 21 on PlayStation 5, you will not be able to play against FIFA 21 gamers on Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S.
Cross-play is not supported in FIFA 21, but future versions of FIFA may have cross-play where multiple consoles can play together or against each other online.
Other games on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X support or will support cross-play, including Destiny 2, Chivalry 2, Fortnite and Worms Rumble.
